Turf School was held in Las Vegas, Nev. March 7 - 8 with Paul Gibson from SiteOne hosting both days. The first day was proper identification of turfgrass including basic weeds, bugs and diseases. Our hands-on included learning how to measure with your own individual step, calibrating a spreader by speed, weight of material and following the label directions. We also learned more about the items on a fertilizer label and how to interpret the numbers, code words and ingredients.
We also had our artificial turf vendor Carter Construction discuss marketing, pricing and installation. Our hands-on included the proper taping, measuring and laying the artificial turf in the correct direction followed by an actual estimate practice from the base to the finished product.
Finally, a future vendor for The Grounds Guys demonstrated some of their products and the potential for marketing them. Our franchisees brainstormed and had terrific ideas for utilizing their products including pond clarification, sanitizer for artificial turf and soil conditioner.
Natalie sent new marketing material for turfgrass and artificial turf presented in a PowerPoint by corporate. Attendees also received a The Grounds Guys’ pen along with goodies from SiteOne. We also gambled a little since many of our franchisees had never been to Vegas, and the group ate the largest plate of nachos known to man!
